Challah Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 packets of dry yeast (4 1/2 tsp)
- 1 3/4 cups of warm water
- 1 cup of sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup of oil
- 1/2 T salt
- 6-7 cups of flour
Glaze:
- 1 egg beaten
- Topping of choice
Baking Instructions:
In large mixing bowl allow yeast to dissolve in water for 5 minutes. Add sugar and wait a few minutes until bubbles form. Add 1 cup of flour. Mix well. Add eggs, oil, and salt, mixing after each addition. Slowly stir in most of the remaining flour, mixing as you go along. When dough thickens, place on floured board and knead. Return dough to oiled bowl and cover. Allow to rise in warm place for 1-2 hours. After dough rises, shape, then brush with egg and sprinkle on topping. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Yields: 3 large challahs
